commercetools foundary
Overview
commercetools launched a new product “foundry “. It aimed to Unlock the benefits of composable commerce making it easier than ever with their blueprint for B2C retail to speed up implementation, ensuring a quick and effective transition to composable commerce.
The visuals intended to visualise the simplicity of how Foundry simplified headless commerce. Each cube represents a pre-built package that can be plugged into any eCommerce system. The lights turn on signalling that foundry is plugged in and ready to work. The video ends on all the 4 cubes forming pre-built solutions with the simplicity of Foundry.
The marketing team provided the copy which translate the visual metaphors to a literal interpretation of what the video is communicating.

Process
Before the project kicked off, the design team had created loose visuals for foundry. Most of the material previously created had a 3D isometric style. To maintain this look, the video is created in Cinema 4D (3D Animation software). The cubes are modelled, textured and lit in Cinema 4D and Redshift.
Redshift render engine provided the ability to iterate quickly. The colour pallet for foundry has a high weighting of luminance and white. This provided a challenge when creating the video. Exporting Crypto mattes and AOVs from redshift gave the option to target certain areas of the scene for colour correction and add post effects. This allowed me to add separation when scenes where too washed out with the colour white.
The camera angles and shot selection created intrigue right up until the wide shot where the product is revealed.
